Skye has worked in the mental health field for at least 15 years in urban communities providing services to the uninsured, underinsured, and underserved populations. In addition, Skye obtained her License in Alcohol and Drug Counseling so that she had the competency and expertise to work with co-occurring disorders. Skye is currently a full-time doctoral student at the Morrison Family College of Health within the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of St. Thomas. She has a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota, a Master’s of Social Work from the College of St. Catherine/University of St. Thomas, and a Master’s of Alcohol Drug Counseling from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies.

Skye described her counseling approach as vibrant, open, accepting, and nonjudgmental attributes, which are helpful in developing and strengthening the therapeutic alliance. As a clinician it is essential that I work in collaboration with the client’s transformational development while they utilize their self-determination and self-exploratory skills to assist in positive decision-making. The theoretical orientations Skye is drawn into are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) along with Humanistic and Psychodynamic theories. In the populations Skye has worked with some of the recurring themes are fear of losses e.g. loss of identity, life, love, and money; trauma e.g. historical, sexual, physical, and psychological. Skye enjoys working with adolescents, emerging adults, and adults across the lifespan. One conviction Skye stands on is holistic health as the key to wellness in an individual’s life transition from chaos to uncertain confidence.

Skye has the mission as a therapist in nurturing and guiding the client onto a journey of self-discovery and self-fulfillment so that they can make a healthy imprint and legacy that contributes to world history.
